About the Course
Intro to the Lathe - part 2 as it sounds is the second part in the lathe classes. In the class we'll start to explore how to go about more complexe lathe work. We'll be making a large bolt, and nut. Starting with the nut, we'll chuck the blank, face it off, centre drill, drill the tapping size and tap the internal thread. Then use the compound slide to cut a taper to knock the sharp corners off. Then we'll move on to the bolt. Again, we'll have to chuck the blank, but this time we'll need to learn how to support a long blank using the tail stock. Then we'll cut a leading taper, and turn the blank down to size both for the shank of the bolt, and the thread size, then cut the thread. Then turn it around to finish the head detail.
